Arquitectonics (mente, territorio y sociedad) : una nueva arquitectura para un mejor entorno

In the last twenty years, the scientific knowledge about the cognitive, social and ecological understanding of human space has increased dramatically. Architecture has also changed in many ways, because of the new technological, aesthetic, global and political conditions of the world. Now it is time for new interactions between architecture and all these scientific transformations. The professions in the world have international reviews on research, while architects, with a few exceptions, do not. Paradoxically enough, architects change the world, day by day, without the serious «calm research» (La «Recherche Patiente») that Le Corbusier claimed fifty years ago... when he insisted upon the necessary equilibrium and interaction between theory and practice in the professional work of architects.Durante los últimos veinte años el conocimiento científico sobre el entendimiento cognitivo, social y ecológico del espacio humano se ha incrementado dramáticamente. La arquitectura también ha cambiado en muchos sentidos, debido a las nuevas condiciones tecnológicas, estéticas, globales y políticas del mundo. Ya es tiempo para analizar estas nuevas interacciones entre la arquitectura y todas estas transformaciones científicas. Las profesiones en el mundo tienen revistas internacionales sobre investigación los arquitectos, con pocas excepciones, no las tenemos. Paradójicamente, los arquitectos cambiamos el mundo, día tras día, sin la seria «investigación paciente» que Le Corbusier (La «Recherche Patiente ») defendió hace cincuenta años, cuando insistió sobre el equilibrio y la interacción necesarios entre la teoría y la práctica en el trabajo profesional de los arquitectos.Peer Reviewe

Spatial Behaviour and the Socio-Spatial Recognition

The paper explores the relation between the real and the mental space of the inhabitants. The understanding of the interaction between the inhabitants and their houses relies upon the direct observation of the practices of the users and the interpretation of their spatial behaviours shown by the routes they choose in everyday activities. The results show that this study requires the understanding of the relationships between the spatial behaviour of inhabitants and their socio-physical recognition. We were also able to highlight the strategies and the forms of adaptation raised during the fulfilment of the action plans of the inhabitant.Peer Reviewe

The Architecture of Transparency (In Human Space)

La obra de Paul Ricoeur que aquí presentamos y que, a nuestro parecer, abre perspectivas nuevas a viejos y difíciles problemas de la arquitectura contemporánea, me permite escribir unas reflexiones sobre el concepto de transparencia en arquitectura y sobre las aportaciones significativas a la arquitectura desde una filosofía que da gran importancia a la configuración de los objetos culturales, sean estos libros o edificios, como formas socio-dialógicas.The work of Paul Ricoeur that we present here, and that, to our opinion, opens new perspectives for old and difficult problems of contemporary architecture, allows me to outline some reflections on the concept of transparency in architecture, and on the significant contributions of philosophy to architecture that attach great importance to configuration of cultural objects, no matter books or buildings, or socio-dialogical forms.Peer Reviewe

Toward a Dialogical Arquitecture : Building Settings for Life

Este número de la revista Arquitectonics sobre Un urbanismo alternativo se inscribe en una necesidad ineludible de encontrar nuevas maneras de urbanizar la tierra menos agresivas con la naturaleza, con la cultura y con la propia humanidad en general. He escrito ya un segundo volumen de Las formas del tiempo para iniciar esta profunda reflexión sobre el nuevo urbanismo que aquí numerosos profesores intentan describir. En este artículo aporto algunas ideas sobre las arquitecturas dialógicas como escenarios de vida social, un camino que debería estar en la base de cualquier visión alternativa hacia una arquitectura del territorio más humana y más viva.This issue of the Arquitectonics Review on An Alternative Planning is in keeping with an unavoidable necessity of finding new ways to develop the land that are less aggressive to nature, to culture and to mankind in general. In a recently finished second volume of Las formas del tiempo (The Shape of Time) I have started a profound reflection on this new city planning that several professors aim to describe here. In this article I contribute with some ideas on dialogical architectures such as settings of social life, which should be the base of any alternative vision towards an architecture of the land that is more human and more alive.Peer Reviewe

Towards a Dialogical Approach to Contemporary Architecture

Mijaíl Bajtín cita muy pocas veces a la arquitectura como ciencia, como arte o como ética, pero su modelo teórico, o paradigma, es tan potente que no es ninguna temeridad intentar una aproximación dialógica. De hecho ya existen precedentes y trabajos en curso, en este sentido. Voy a empezar a tender puentes entre dialogía y arquitectura, en espera de estudios posteriores más profundos.Mikhail Bakhtin rarely refers to architecture as a science, an art or an ethics, but his theoretical model, or paradigm, is so strong that it will not be daring to attempt a dialogical approach. Actually, there are already models and works in preparation. I am going to build bridges between dialogics and architecture while awaiting new, more thorough studies.Peer Reviewe

La arquitectura y el desarrollo psicosocial : el giro dialógico (un homenaje a Paul Ricoeur)

First of all, the paper intends to describe the state-of-theart in the interdisciplinary field between architecture and social sciences. A brief historical background of the discussion follows, going from the pioneer definitions by David Canter and Amos Rapoport until the recent works by Jaan Valsiner and others. Secondly, the paper analyses the «dialogical turn» in the psycho-social development of the mind, from the theories of sociological and cognitive view points. The connexion with architecture is then established either at the prefigurative, or at the configurative and refigurative levels of the architectural performances, according to the theories of Paul Ricoeur, who himself applied these concepts to architecture some years before he died in May 2005. This article tries to be a homage to this extraordinary and generous French philosopher. This «dialogical turn», both in cognitive sciences and in social sciences, has direct links with a «sustainability» in architectural design, since it is an articulation between psychogenetic and sociogenetic developments. The third, and last chapter of my paper will show some data from recent psycho-social genetic empirical analyses of children’s conceptions of places to live in, considered as materializations of what Mikhail Bakhtin defined as the «architectonics» of culture (following the philosophy of E. Kant) and also as a striking example of psychosocial architecture. The paper concludes with some ideas about the theoretical renewal this approach could represent for the future of the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary articulations between architecture and social sciences.Ante todo, la comunicación intenta describir lo más novedoso en el campo interdisciplinario entre la arquitectura y las ciencias sociales. Continúa con los antecedentes históricos de la discusión, desde las primeras definiciones por David Canter y Amos Rapoport hasta los trabajos recientes de Jaan Valsiner y otros. En segundo lugar, la comunicación analizará el «giro dialógico» en el desarrollo psicosocial de la mente, a partir de las teorías del punto de vista sociológico y cognitivo. La relación con la arquitectura se establece entonces, sea a nivel prefigurativo o a nivel configurativo y refigurativo de las prácticas arquitectónicas, según las teorías de Paul Ricoeur, que aplicó estos conceptos a la arquitectura algunos años antes de su muerte en mayo de 2005. Este artículo intenta ser un homenaje a este extraordinario y generoso filósofo francés. El «giro dialógico», tanto en las ciencias cognitivas como en las ciencias sociales, tiene relaciones directas con la «sostenibilidad» en el proyecto arquitectónico, puesto que es una articula-ción entre los desarrollos psicogéneticos y sociogenéticos. El tercer y último capítulo de mi comunicación mostrará algunos datos de recientes análisis psicosociales genéticos empíricos de las concepciones de los niños de los lugares para vivir, considerados como materializaciones de lo que definió Mijaíl Bajtín como la «arquitectónica» de la cultura (siguiendo la filosofía de E. Kant) y también como un ejemplo sorprendente de la arquitectura psicosocial. La comunicación concluye con unas ideas sobre la renovación teórica que este enfoque podría representar para el futuro de las articulaciones interdisciplinarias y transdisciplinarias entre la arquitectura y las ciencias sociales.Peer Reviewe
